As a not-for-profit Catholic health care ministry, Providence Health & Services embraces its responsibility to provide for the needs of the communities we serve, especially the poor and vulnerable. That is why, in 2008, Providence in Washington provided nearly $50 million in free and discounted health care to those in need, as part of our more than $168 million in total community benefit. We take great pride in our work, which continues the tradition started by the Sisters of Providence more than 150 years ago, and we are pleased to share how we’ve done that during the past year in our 2008 Community Benefit Report.
