Treatments & Services
The Tattoo Removal Program uses the latest in laser technology to remove tattoos. This laser removal process emits light in very short flashes called pulses. The impact of the energy from the pulse of light is similar to the snap of a rubber band on the skin. Topical anesthesia can be used to lessen the pain.
On average, a black ink tattoo takes five to eight treatments, with four- to six-week intervals between treatments. In color, depth of the ink in the skin and the type of tattoo are all factors that may increase the number of treatments needed. In most cases, fading of the tattoo by 95% or more can be accomplished. Compared to other colors, black and dark blue inks respond the best to the laser treatment. Red responds intermediately, while certain colors, such as green or yellow, can be very resistant.
Side effects are very rare. When they do occur, they are usually mild and confined to the treated area. Side effects can include pinpoint bleeding, minor swelling and blisters. Although it is not typical, occasionally hypo-pigmentation or whitening of the skin may occur. Normal skin color should return within six – twelve months of the last tattoo removal treatment. Some very minor scarring also may be seen.
