at Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation
Helping and supporting older adults as they journey through the transition from indepent living to incresasingly needing to rely on the help of others. Providing activities, programs and services that enrich quality of life for our residents.
Older adults who need help caring for themselves have held a special place in the hearts of the Sisters of Providence since the 1830s. That’s when foundress Madame Emilie Gamelin sheltered a 102-year-old woman and others in need in her Montreal home. The Sisters’ dream of helping Seattle’s seniors began in the 1920s, and in 1924, they had raised $320,000 from the community to build St. Vincent’s Home for the Aged on 11 hilltop acres in West Seattle where The Mount sits today.
Uncompensated care is our greatest need!
As the average age of our residents continues to climb and economic conditions erode the value of the assets and retirement income of our residents, the need for uncompensated care is increasing at an astounding rate!
In 2011, we project that fully 60% of our skilled nursing residents will be on Medicaid. The gap between government reimbursement and the cost to provide care for these residents is:
- $117 per resident per day
- $12,200 per day for all residents on Medicaid
- $366,000 per month
- $4.4 Million per year
Memorial and Tribute Gifts
Gifts may be made in memory or in honor of a loved one, friend, associate or special occasion. For memorial and tribute gifts, we will send a letter to the family or next-of-kin in notification that The Foundation has received a gift in honor of their loved one, including the name and address of the donor.
Legacy Club—Continuing the Sisters of Providence Tradition
The Sisters’ legacy of compassionate care continues in part through The Legacy Club — a group of individuals, foundations and businesses who support The Mount through accumulative or one-time gifts of $5,000 or more in tax-deductible gifts.

In-Kind Gifts
Donations of goods and services may be accepted as well. The Emilie’s Treasures Thrift Boutique welcomes donations of quality clothing and household wares, furniture and appliances. Items such as travel packages, fine art and recreational experiences are wonderful contributions to our annual gala auctions and events. Another way to give to The Foundation and The Mount is through volunteer opportunities. Event Sponsorships
The Foundation stages several fundraising events each year. Some featured events in 2011 will include our 11th Annual Black Tie Bingo at April 2nd at Bell Harbor, the annual fall Legacy Community Luncheon in October and O’ Christmas Trees Treeview, Silver Bells Brunch and Gala Dinner/Auction in The Westin Hotel's Grand Ballroom November 26 - 28th. "Emilie’s Treasures" Thrift Boutique
Located on The Mount's 1st floor near the Gift Shop and Espresso Bar, Emilie's Treasures is accessible to all residents, staff, family members and supporters. The shop is entirely run by volunteers and 100% of the sales are donated to support the residents and programs of The Mount.
Emilie’s Treasures is filled with special items—some of great "antique" value, others of great bargain value. The goal is to provide a shopping experience for residents, staff and friends while generating additional income for The Foundation to give back to residents. Quality donations are accepted daily.
The Emilie's shop is operated entirely by volunteers, so if you’d like to help with planning or as a salesperson, please contact Storey Squires at 206-937-3701, ext. 28170 or storey.squires@providence.org. We welcome your donations of new or lightly used household items, jewelry and women's clothing for resale in the shop. There is a donation closet on the 1st floor of The Mount close to the reception desk. Please call ahead for furniture donations.
