Providence St. Joseph Medical Center’s emergency room offers emergency medical services twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The emergency department is staffed by highly trained healthcare providers in a hospital setting – enabling providers to treat any type of life-threatening accident or medical emergency. If you require specialized care at another healthcare facility you may be transported by helicopter, airplane or ground transportation. Every second counts during an emergency so go to your nearest emergency department or dial 9-1-1 if you are experiencing a medical emergency.
Medical conditions commonly have different symptoms in children than adults. If you are concerned, contact your child's physician. If you think your child is having a medical emergency, such as difficulty breathing, high fever or decreased activity, always seek immediate medical care.

What should I bring with me to the Emergency Department?
It is important to bring medical information with you to help the nurses and physicians assess and treat your condition:
- Medications: The medication list should include the name of the medicine and the dose you are taking, how often you take it. Include prescription medications and over-the-counter medications or herbal formulas.
- Allergies to medications and food
- Medical and surgery history
- Immunization records for children and adults
When will I be seen by a physician?
Emergency departments see patients based on severity of their illness, medical symptoms or injuries, not on a first-come, first-served basis. It is necessary to be clear and specific when describing your illness. This helps to provide the best possible medical care as quickly as possible.
