What is surgery?
Surgery is a medical specialty that provides healthcare treatment by opening the body to remove or fix organs, tissues or bones. General surgeons are physicians extensively trained and prepared to diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of diseases that require surgery. The expertise of a general surgeon is wide and ranges from investigative surgery to diagnose ailments, to the removal or repair of organs and other tissues.
General surgeons are also trained in trauma and emergency surgery. They are capable of dealing with almost any type of surgical emergency but are often needed to stop internal bleeding, remove a gallbladder or appendix, correct a bowel obstruction or close an intestine.
