Quality of Care

At Providence, our quality vision is simple,

"Providence Health & Services will provide the best care and service to every person, every time."

We believe quality is the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with professional knowledge. We are guided in our daily effort to deliver quality care by the following six aims, first outlined by the Institute of Medicine:

  • Safe: avoiding injuries to patients from the care that is intended to help them
  • Timely: reducing waits and sometimes harmful delays for both those who receive and those who give care
  • Effective: Matching care to science, avoiding overuse of ineffective care and under-use of effective care
  • Efficient: avoiding waste in order to maximize value
  • Equitable: providing care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics, geographic location or socioeconomic status
  • Patient and family centered: Honoring the individual and respecting choice

At Providence Health & Services, achieving our quality vision for delivering safe, quality care everyday at Providence facilities is guided by our Quality Strategic Plan.
