Providence Health International supports initiatives to provide educational opportunities for health professionals from economically developing countries. Through these educational partnerships we seek to increase the capacity to serve the people in their respective communities.
In 1996, the residency program for Internal Medicine at Providence Portland Medical Center, in conjunction with a program sponsored by the University of Indiana, began a partnership with Moi Medical Center in Eldoret, Kenya. On an annual basis, a faculty person and medical resident from Portland travel to Eldoret for a one-month rotation. In addition, two medical students from Moi Medical Center come to Portland to observe and learn about medical care in this country.
