Pediatrics - NICU
In 2010, as part of the new patient care wing, a 12-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit designed to care for premature and high-risk babies will be added to the new Women's Center at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.
The neonatal intensive care unit, the NICU, is an intensive care unit created for premature and high-risk newborns who need specialized treatment. The NICU has equipment designed for infants and a hospital staff who have special training in newborn care. Babies who need to be in a NICU are often admitted within the first 24 hours after birth. At Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, our specialized staff is ready to take premature and sick babies into our current special care nursery (SCN). This special care nursery provides care for infants with less severe medical problems. Currently, if your baby needs more specialized attention, he or she is usually transported to a nearby hospital with a certified NICU.
Special Care Nursery
The Special Care Nursery at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center provides extra care for sick or premature newborns who need specialized treatment, yet do not require intervention of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Special Care Nursery allows these newborns who were born at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center to stay at the hospital, close to their parents, rather than be transported to another facility.
