Critical Care

The Critical Care Unit at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a specialty care unit created for the patient who requires continuous, comprehensive, and detailed intensive care because of the critical nature of the patient's disease or illness.

The Critical Care Unit, operational 24 hours a day, each day of the year, is designed to provide a concentration of skills, equipment, and facilities for specialized medical and nursing care for the critically ill patient. In addition to the expertise of our physicians, our multi-disciplinary approach includes consultations with nursing staff, dietitians, pharmacists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, social workers when appropriate and spiritual care if desired to ensure that each patient receives the care they need.

The Providence Holy Cross Medical Center’s specially trained physicians, nurses, therapists, and technicians provide 24-hour intensive care for individuals who are critically ill, injured or have undergone extensive surgeries.

Having a family member in the Critical Care Unit is stressful.  We understand your concerns and want to do what we can to ease your burden.  The visitor guidelines [link to pdf of visitor’s guide] are designed to allow us to care for your loved one in the best possible way.

PLEASE understand that when your loved one arrives in the Critical Care Unit, our expert team needs time to assess the patient, begin treatment and set up equipment, which can take some time. We realize how hard it is to wait and we ask for your patience as we concentrate on setting up the medical care for the patient. One of our staff members will come out or call out to the waiting room and bring you back as soon as possible.

Highly skilled nurses staff our Critical Care Unit and specialized services are provided in a caring environment for you. Patient conditions are monitored closely through the use of state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The staff collaborates closely with other departments to provide optimum care.  When the physician determines that intensive care is no longer needed, your loved one will be transferred to another unit where trained registered nurses will continue to monitor his/her progress.
