Obstetrics

At Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, we are committed to the health and wellness of you and your baby providing top quality maternity care during your pregnancy, labor and birth, and through your postpartum period.

Our maternity care is recognized as being in the top five percent nationally by national health care ratings organization, HealthGrades, and has been reported as providing the best maternity services by the Daily News. In 2007, Providence Holy Cross was one of only 59 hospitals nationally to receive a "Baby-Friendly" hospital designation by Baby-Friendly USA, under a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and United Nations Children's Fund to promote breast-feeding. Our medical staff is dedicated to helping you along your journey of motherhood, providing a healthy start for your baby, and supporting your family.

Hundreds of babies are born each month in the Providence Holy Cross labor and delivery rooms. Our experienced, board-certified physicians and skilled mother-baby nurses and our lactation consultants are among the best and help make this a healthy, joyous event while providing the personal, private time your family needs to bond and get to know one another.

Our Labor/Delivery/Recovery Suites (LDR) provide a home-like setting while being equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring and delivery capabilities. We believe in Mother/Baby Care, which means that mothers can keep their newborn by their sides as much as they wish. Our skilled Mother/Baby nurses teach new moms how to be at ease with their baby. And the Web Nursery for Providence Holy Cross Medical Center allows family and friends to see baby's first pictures on the newborn's own web page.

When there are health concerns for mother or baby or both, our Board-Certified perinatologists specialize in caring for all types of high-risk obstetrics and prenatal diagnosis. Our perinatology and anesthesia services are available in-house, around the clock, seven days a week in the event of an emergency. We also offer genetic counseling, available to those with a family history of genetic or medical problems.

State-of-the-Art Care

In addition to its comprehensive Labor/Delivery/Recovery services, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center offers a Special Care Nursery licensed as a Level II medical facility to care for higher risk babies. A neonatologist is on call around-the-clock for babies who need special attention. Personal commitment, the latest technology and dedicated experts have made us leaders in the care of premature and sick infants. Though most infants won't require specialized services, all new parents can have peace of mind knowing they are available if necessary.

As part of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center's expansion, a 12-bed NICU, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, opening in 2011 will help care for those babies born prematurely or with complications.
