Critical Care
Having a loved one in the critical care unit (CCU), can be an especially emotional and stressful time. Yet, it’s something that many people experience, either as a patient or a family member of a patient.
Sometimes called intensive care, the CCU at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett provides exceptional, around-the-clock treatment of severely ill patients. From 24/7 critical care physician specialists to a compassionate spiritual care staff, there are countless reasons to reassure you that your loved one is in just the right place.
Intensivist physicians on-site 24/7
Critical care patients are typically admitted from the emergency department or surgical area due to surgery complications, serious accidents, infections or breathing difficulties. These patients require comprehensive intensive care that’s best coordinated by board-certified physicians called intensivists.
Most hospitals have intensivists available on-call. At Providence Regional, our intensivists are on-site in the CCU 24/7 to manage or co-manage all CCU patients. As a patient, it's reassuring to know that an intensivist is just seconds away to consult with your primary care physician and communicate with your family members. Scientific evidence suggests that the quality of care in hospital CCUs is strongly influenced by whether intensivists are providing care in the CCU.

Helpful tips for family members and visitors of CCU patients
• Assign one family member as a primary contact person for physicians and nurses.
• Write down any questions you have in a notebook. Use it when talking to the physician or nurse and for sharing information with family members.
• Take care of yourself as your loved one recovers. Eat regularly, get proper rest, and take a break from the hospital bedside when you can.
• Know what the visiting hours are and please don’t visit if you have a potentially contagious illness, such as a cold.
Visiting hours
Immediate family members may visit anytime with the possible exception of shift change hours which are 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
