Spiritual Care
Ever since the Sisters of Providence established Providence in the Pacific Northwest more than 150 years ago, Providence has remained focused on its mission: “As people of Providence, we reveal God’s love for all, especially the poor and vulnerable, through our compassionate service.”
Here are some of the ways that our mission is alive and well at Providence Regional.
Comforting patients and families
Being in the hospital can sometimes be a stressful experience. The chaplains at Providence Regional are here to help you through any emotional or spiritual difficulties you have during your stay.
Professionally trained and board-certified, our chaplains listen attentively, doing everything possible to understand and support you and your family, regardless of your religious beliefs. We strongly believe in respecting the cultural and spiritual diversity of those we serve. Hospital chaplains are available any time, day or night. To request a chaplain, call 425-261-4550 or call the hospital operator.
Chapel information & locations
The chapels at Providence Regional offer a quiet, peaceful atmosphere for prayer and meditation.
You can write a specific request for a loved one in our Prayer Book or browse spiritual resources from various faith traditions.
Pacific Campus Chapel, Main Level
Catholic Mass, Wednesday, 11:30 am
Colby Campus Chapel, First Floor
Catholic Mass every Monday and Thursday, 11:30 a.m.
Larger than the current Colby and Pacific chapels combined, our new chapel is a sacred space of solitude and renewal, free from overhead paging and designed for healing and reflection. Its historic, 90-year-old stained glass depicts the Ascension of Jesus. This stained glass, which appears throughout the chapel, was once a 15-foot-high window in the former chapel at Providence Seattle hospital (now the Swedish Cherry Hill campus) that has been painstakingly restored to its original beauty. Local wood and glass artist John Tapert also introduces a new style of infused glass within the altar, holy water font and tabernacle using inspiration from the timeless frescos of 13th century artist Fra Angelico.
Music Therapy
Sacred Harmonies—our music thanatology program—offers soothing music to patients in distress to complement their medical care.
Professionally trained, board-certified musicians use harps and voice to create an atmosphere of peace and reverence for patients and families. The music is tailored to each patient according to their breath and heart rate.
In 2011, two new CDs were professionally produced by Sacred Harmonies at Providence. “Beauty Awaits” and the newest "Love's Call" CDs are available free to patients 24 hours a day.
Crosses
All patient rooms at Providence Regional are blessed with a cross—a reflection of our faith-based heritage and a symbol of hope and healing. Pediatric areas in the new Tower display the Salvadoran cross, which reflects the faces of children and people from around the world.
Comfort Dogs
Patients and families have the benefit of many varieties of comfort and care—including care that comes on four legs.
Comfort dogs and their handlers work as volunteers, bringing comfort, support, unconditional love and joy to patients and families.
The comfort dogs at Providence Regional are trained and certified by the Delta Society, a national organization that aims to improve health and well-being through interactions with animals.
Comfort dogs like Addie visit patients and families at Providence Regional.
