About Providence

Visual Resources

Providence Archives Visual Resources provide context to the rich history of Providence Health & Services and the Sisters of Providence, Mother Joseph Province, in Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. The collection includes photographs; original and copy negatives; slides; 16- and 8-mm motion-picture film; videotapes; albums; postcards, and drawings. Dates span the 1850s to the present.

Visual resources are arranged in two main record groups. The Institutions record groups reflect the healthcare, education, housing and social service institutions sponsored by the health system. Series include Facilities; Personnel; Departments; and Subjects.

The Sisters of Providence record group includes three series: Administration; Religious Life; and Sister Personnel. Photographs of sisters in healthcare and education ministry are also found within the series of individual institutions.

Photograph reprints are available through the Archives. For fees and terms see Photograph Reproduction Guidelines.
