Prayers for the Hawley family

Some of you may have already heard the very sad news about Chuck Hawley, our beloved sponsor. After living with cancer for several years, Chuck passed away peacefully on September 29, 2011. He was surrounded by loved ones and, knowing Chuck, his deep faith in and love for God. While we are deeply saddened by this news, we are also consoled by a reference to Jesus’ words in one of Chuck’s last emails: Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid. Believe in Me and trust in My mercy.
Chuck served the Providence Mission for 25 years. He was one of our first sponsors – a role that allowed him to share his love for ministry and continue his tireless commitment to serve the poor and vulnerable. In order to take on the role of sponsor, he retired from his position as vice president, public affairs for Providence. Prior to his work in government and public affairs, Chuck served as vice president of long term care and continuum development for 15 years.
Chuck led the way in showing people of Providence and so many others what it means to have a calling to serve. His life, work and spirit embodied the Providence Mission and were an example of a person of Providence striving to reveal God’s love for all, especially the poor and vulnerable.
We know so many people feel blessed to have known Chuck and we share this sentiment. He deeply loved Providence, and our ministry is better able to serve our Mission because of Chuck’s work. He showed each person he met what it means to know me, care for me, ease my way.
