ABOUT PROVIDENCE | CAREERS | FOR EMPLOYEES | FOR PHYSICIANS | MEDIA
Guatemala. It’s only one word. But for this team, this one word captures days of anticipation, weeks of preparation, months of planning, and for some, years of yearning. Yearning to do more, give more, serve more. To share our time, talent and treasure with those less fortunate, those really in need.
Who are these people in need? They’re the fathers who can’t afford to take their children to the doctor. The mothers who endure excruciating pain because they aren’t able to have surgery. The babies who go without medicine because their parents had to choose between that and food for their family. They’re the people of Guatemala who live in extreme poverty and have virtually no access to healthcare.
For the 30 members of our team—physicians and employees of Providence and Swedish from Everett to Olympia—it’s an honor and a privilege to travel to Guatemala to serve these people. Partnering with Faith in Practice, we’re embarking on a short-term medical mission trip to provide life-changing, and potentially life-saving, surgery to approximately 70 Guatemalans.
While the words we use may be different, we share a common purpose:
—Faith in Practice
“As People of Providence, we reveal God’s love for all especially the poor and vulnerable, through our compassionate service.”
–Providence Health & Services
For this team, this trip to Guatemala is an opportunity to put these words into action, to put our mission into motion. And for that, we feel truly blessed.
