Our first Providence Health International events were a great success. More than 150 people gathered to celebrate and learn about our international work from the perspective of our volunteers. Speakers, Dr. Walter Lopez and Rev. Linda McCarty from our global health partners, Medical Teams International and Faith in Practice, gave inspiring presentations while guests enjoyed Guatemalan-themed cuisine.
About 70 people attended the event at the Medical Teams International headquarters in Redmond on August 21. We received $5,905 in donations to continue our work in Guatemala. At this event, guests experienced the REAL. LIFE. Exhibit, a simulation of what life is like for people affected by disaster, conflict and extreme poverty. Nearly 80 people attend the August 22 event at Providence Office Park in Portland where we received $4,700 in donations. We would like to thank the participation of all attendees and donors.
We would also like to acknowledge the event committee volunteers for their support. In Redmond they are Jason Moulding, Mary Cranston, Matt Volta, Susie Borovina and Manjula Prasad. In Portland they are John Roscoe, Cindy Lorion, Melissa Damm, Mitch Yoder, John Thompson, James Harker and Kate Morrell.
