Dec. 18, 2013
For 25 years, Mark Koenig has carried the torch of Providence international missions handed to us by the Sisters as identified in the Hopes and Aspirations:
“We expect that Providence Ministries will continue the outreach to the poor as a central element of the work of Providence Health and Services, responding to the emerging needs of the poor and using its resources to address them with wise stewardship but also with a willingness to take risks. We expect them to reach beyond the borders of our own country as global citizens exemplified through the witness of Providence International Missions. “
He has exemplified this Mission in both our local communities and internationally. His dedication has resulted in the creation of our medical supply recovery organization (formerly known as CHUMA), created lasting partnerships for Providence’s work in Guatemala, and connected more than 1,500 Providence caregivers with international service opportunities.
Despite the incredible impact his work has had on so many lives, Mark’s forte is most certainly the care and love he gives all of us fortunate to know him. He takes the time to know the stories, challenges and joys of those who cross his path and never hesitates to pause and greet a stranger or fellow co-worker.
He has inspired those around him with his tireless advocacy for those who are marginalized in our world and delivered a consistent message of solidarity. You can read an article he authored on this topic. We celebrate the incredible years of service Mark has devoted to serving those who are poor and vulnerable internationally and thank him sincerely for his contributions.
