Providence Hospital & Medical Centers

Since 1856 our medical centers provide vital medical services to the entire Southwest Washington community. In 1856, the first Sisters of Providence barely had a roof over their heads when someone left an orphan at their doorstep. Shortly thereafter, a homeless 85-year-old man arrived and then a mentally ill woman. The pioneering sisters accepted them all.

Over the years, the sisters established hospitals, nursing homes, orphanages and schools. The stories about their sacrifice, compassion and industriousness inspire Providence employees and volunteers to this day. Helping the poor and vulnerable still defines Providence culture. Services and programs often extend beyond the walls of the hospital and involve others in the community.

We are proud to carry on the legacy of the Sisters in the work we do today.
