What to Bring and Not Bring to Inpatient Treatment

For Adolescents - What to Bring

Please mark patient's name on all clothing items with indelible ink. All clothing will be washed immediately upon arrival. Please plan accordingly.

  • Favorite pillow and/or blanket (optional)
  • Clothing to sleep in - needs to cover your body
  • Slippers (soft-soled)
  • Shower shoes/sandals
  • One pair only of shoes that are suitable for both in the gym and going outside
  • Toiletries - toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, brush, comb, soap, stick deodorant, electric razor, lotion
  • School books and assignments
  • Phone card if you live out of the area (Note: Buy the 1-800 cards, as they are the only ones that will work for our pay phones)
  • Comfortable clothes for four days (up to five pairs of pants and 10 shirts). If you are bringing shorts, they must be no more than three inches above the knee.
  • Envelopes and stamps, if you are planning to write letters

For Adolescents - What Not to Bring

  • Razors (electric are okay)
  • Any products containing alcohol, anything in a glass container or any aerosols
  • Mirrors. Any makeup mirrors need to be removed.
  • Perfume, cologne or aftershave
  • Tobacco products or paraphernalia
  • Valuables: money, wallets or purses
  • Gum or food of any kind
  • Bandanas or hats
  • Mesh or see-through clothing
  • Sagging pants (or bring a belt )
  • Shirts or pants that expose the tummy
  • Jewelry (with exception for piercings)
  • Hair or clothing irons, blow dryers
  • Radios, CDs, CD players, walkman
  • Magazines or books
  • Spiral notebooks, three-ring binders
  • Pens, pencils or other writing utensils
  • Clothes that depict drugs, alcohol, violence, tobacco or anything of a sexual nature
  • Skirts, tank tops or sleeveless shirts

For Adults - What to Bring

Please mark patient's name on all clothing items with indelible ink. All clothing will be washed immediately upon arrival. Please plan accordingly.

  • Medications you are currently taking
  • Favorite pillow and/or blanket (optional)
  • Clothing to sleep in – needs to cover your body (nightwear, pajamas, etc. are mandatory)
  • Slippers (soft soled)
  • Shower shoes/sandals
  • One pair only of shoes that are suitable for going outside or in the gym (sneakers)
  • Toiletries - toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, brush, comb, soap, stick deodorant, electric razor, lotion
  • Recovery book or journal
  • Comfortable clothes for five days (1 medium suitcase should be plenty) If you are bringing shorts, make sure they are knee length or a little shorter. No short shorts, please.
  • Phone card if you live out of the area (use the 1-800 cards, as they are the only ones that work for pay phones)
  • Envelopes and stamps, if you are planning to write letters
  • Rolls of quarters for phone or pop machine

For Adults - What Not to Bring:

  • Razors or razor blades
  • Any products with alcohol as one of the first three ingredients
  • Mirrors, All mirrors from cosmetics will be removed, no glass containers
  • Perfume, cologne or aftershave
  • Tobacco products or paraphernalia
  • Valuables. Please do not bring credit cards, large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry, purses, etc.
  • Gum or food of any kind
  • Bandanas
  • See through, “sagging” or revealing clothing (no skirts, no short shorts, no low cut shirts
  • Clothing irons
  • CDs or CD players, televisions or DVD players (MP3 players ok)
  • Magazines or books NO tank tops please
