Jump Start Education Program
Providence employees in SWSA will benefit from a grant which is targeted to provide free college preparatory and pre-requisite classes. The focus of the classes will be college prep and pre-requisites, positioning employees who are interested in going back to school to further a career in healthcare. Classes may be held on site at PSPH, made available on-line and/or held at South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC). Funds are also available to these students for books, childcare while in class, mentoring and other potential needs.
In order to be considered as a possible participant, employees must take the student assessment test required by SPSCC, which will be offered at PSPH or at SPSCC. The outcome of this assessment determines where a potential student needs to begin school.
Assessment testing dates are pending. If you think you may be interested in taking advantage of this new opportunity please send your name and e-mail to swsacommunications@providence.org
We can not predict which classes will be available at this point in time. The decision will be based on the outcome of the assessment process and our ability to pull together a group of students that share similar educational needs so that we can create a cohort of students. This grant provides a limited opportunity. Funding is only available through June 2011 providing students the opportunity to attend one or two classes as a jump start to their educational needs. Providence will continue to partner with SPSCC and other organizations in an effort to try to obtain additional funding for future educational opportunities.
