Child Neurology 

Child Neurologists offer diagnostic assessment and medical treatment for children with diseases and conditions that affect the nervous system- the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. Some of the conditions they evaluate and treat include:
- Epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Headaches
- Developmental delay
- Cerebral Palsy
- Birth defects that affect the nervous system
- Genetic disorders that affect the nervous system
- Metabolic diseases that affect the nervous system
- Muscle diseases, including Muscular Dystrophies
- Brain injury and its consequences

Child Neurologists undertake an average of six years of education beyond the M.D. degree, including residency and fellowship training in Pediatrics, Neurology and Child Neurology. Board Certification, in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology, is through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Many Child Neurologists are also Board Certified in Pediatrics, through the American Board of Pediatrics. Some pursue additional fellowship training to develop expertise in particular procedures or conditions.

Child Neurologists provide expert and compassionate help to children and families coping with some of childhood’s most frightening illnesses. They work with primary care providers and other specialists involved in each child’s care to promote the best outcomes possible.
